Since August 2024, I have been trying to move off the hill where I live at 321 N 5th Street Apartment 15 at the Granview Apartments over eight years now since November 16, 2016 when my first Choice Voucher came through after living at 2417 Darrow in a house where I rented a room and my landlord at the time that I paid my rent to was Rookstool Modern Reality.

I rented the room right after I returned from the Big Island and for 4 months lived in Ocean View, Hawaii. I had moved there because I got tired of all the BS I was dealing with in Tulelake, Ca, where I started TNT and when I first started TNT the name of my news publication was Tulelake Newell Times, hence TNT. But as time went on I changed the name to Tulelake New Times keeping the TNT incials. My mom and I first came to the Tulelake basin in 2002 when we were evicted from the Kutras Gardens apartments in Redding, CA, right after I become my mom’s full time caregiver in May 1999, Mothers day and you can read the chapter from my book called, “Up from here” with 21 chapters with 265 pages out of my life being bipolar manic depressive and the chapter from "Up from here" Chapter 10: Kutras Gardens. - April 24, 2014

Before I moved to the Big Island I gave everything away as I just wanted to get as far away from a group of people who had it in for me because they did not like the news stories I wrote about the Tulelake City Council Meetings, along with other local stories on my news prints I would post around town and on my brand new blog. Where one of these people at the time made it point to mention in a post on my new TNT blog that I had just created on Tulelake New Times blog site. Nobody goes there but you, you are the only one that goes there. Yeah right and now have over a quarter of millions views later presently All Time 266946 views worldwide. Laughable!

“Tulelake Still in the Red” on January 07, 2011

I had been doing printed hard copies of Tulelake New Times since Thursday Feb 11, 2010 when I made a flyer for the fun of it as a joke about UFO’s flying over Tulelake when I was standing outside talking with Joe Cordonier Elected City Clerk of Tulelake, California and discussing the UFO’s that flew over the city of Tulelake, California and after the flyer was created and made I posted it all over town asking anyone and every one I ran across if the happen to see the UFO’s that flew over Tulelake and showed them the flyer I had made. And asked them to pick out from one of the pictures on the flyer what they thought it looked like. And Tuelake being a small town located 4 miles below the California and Oregon State Highway and around 34 miles south of Klamath Falls, Oregon with a population around 1000 people. A very small town and very cliquish like many small towns are anywhere in the world.

Mom and I had moved to Tulelake for the first time when I was still her Caregiver in 2004. Mom and I lived in Newell, California first in 2002, when we first arrived in the Tulelake basin and after visiting my Uncle and Aunt and first and second cousins in Madres, Oregon. Where mom and I headed first after being evicted from the Krutras Gardens Apartments in Chapter 10: Kutras.

My Mom’s last wish to find her mother’s grave and put a marker on my mom’s, moms grave site and I did that after I got the information from my Uncle and Aunt Donaldson who were my mom’s younger brother Dick Donaldson and my mom’s sister in law Jean Donaldson. All three of them went to Lost River High School but different Classes in the early 1940's.

And my mom Edith K. Donaldson (Garland) and my uncle Dicky lived on the Thompson Farm with my Grandmother Barbra Irene O’malley was killed in 1938 in a dear hunting accident near Timber Mountain in California. When my mom was 14 years old and my Uncle, Uncle Dicky was 11 years old. My Uncle Dicky met his wife Aunt Jean when my uncle was in the third grade and his wife Aunt Jene mom’s sister in law was in the first grade and they both my uncle and aunt went on to have 4 children later on in life.

Two girls and two boys. Where along with my mom and uncle and aunt their oldest son my mom’s nephew and my cousin are no longer among the living.

And my moms boyfriend at the time was Lowell Kenyon of the city of Tulelake, CA, and Malin, Oregon ranching areas. And my grandmother is buried next to her husband Les Thompson’s parents James and Katheryn Thompson in Mt Laki Cemetery from the Thompson farm at the time. And mom is buried at Eternal hills seven miles away from where her mom has been buried, my grandmother since 1938, until 2003 when I bought the marker for my moms last wish for her mother’s grave site. And the marker for mom and me has both my moms name on it and mine on it because when my times up I will be laid to rest in the same plot with my mom. I only forgot to put mother and son on it and people who stroll past it in Eternal Hills may sometimes think. Wow she sure had a young husband. I keep going to fix it but have not had the time to do it yet.

Rookstool Modern Reality managed the house on 2417 Darrow where I had a roommate whose parents owned the house and he was a freshman student at OIT at the time and he and I did not see each other much for that matter or spend anytime together, not even for meals. I spent most of my time in my room there and he went about his business and I went about mine after a year was up it was time for me to move as my Choice Voucher was due any time now because it takes a good year after you file your application with Klamath Housing Authority to come through. It finally did and I found the apartment on at 321 N 5th Street Apartment 15 at the Granview Apartments over eight years now. Then in on October 17, 2019 the owners of the apartments switched property managements companies to AAA Property Management and have had them as my landlord every since for the past 5 years with them. Recently made three trips to Salem on Amtrak round trips first as I wanted to move out of the area before the presidential election in 2024.

This would the first time I transfered my Choice Voucher to another city and all the paperwork that goes along with it and a new recertification as well. No fun. But I was looking at an apartment that was a one bedroom in a very nice apartment complex with two weeks free rent and no deposit. What a deal I thought and it would have been a step up for me a swimming pool, jacuzzi, and recreation and weight rooms. What a deal.

Been taking the Salem trips since my 70th Birthday in September three times and the third time when I downsized to just a Studio and filled out all the paperwork and paid the $59.00 plus the extra they always changed for the transaction fee of $2.99 to add to the charges everywhere you go. Give or take on how much each charges for the background checks from $49 to $60 at some places and how many people can afford all the fees to check out an apartment rental. It is best to zero in on the ones you want after you take a tour of them so you can see the places in person and not from the pictures posted on their website. But even after I paid the fee after there was still a question after I got back to Klamath Falls of how much my portion of the rent was going to be and I was getting no answers from Klamath Housing Authority or Salem Housing Authority where my Choice Voucher had been transferred to back in September. Where on my trip the first time I was told I needed to have an address and would maybe be able to get a PO box in Salem to get my mail. Which cost me another $57.00 for that and two keys to the box.

And by the time I returned from Salem the second time I still needed to get recertified and when I went to Salem the first time and the worker was not there and was out of the office for training meetings. I dropped as much information as I could along with information on my PO Box address in Salem, Oregon now.

My second trip to Salem was for a meeting with the Salem Housing Authority Worker and I had set. On this second trip I had an appointment at the apartments I was going to tour a one bedroom on the day I was to arrive and the next day I would meet with the Salem Housing Authority Worker and then head back home. The second trip is where Amtrak did not open the door when I arrived there and had to go all the way to Portland and back and reschedule my meeting for the next day for the tour of the one-bedroom apartment.

The story about the third trip to Salem has not been written yet but soon will be at the end of this story about trying to move off this hill before wintertime. Well, that is not going to happen as tomorrow will be the first of December 2024, and another month in the apartment I have lived in for over 8 years now with no end in sight yet to move off this hill on 5th and High Streets, Klamath Falls, Oregon.

After I got back the third time from Salem, Oregon with still no answers as to my share of the rent and how much Salem Housing Authority was going to bill Klamath Housing Authority for the Choice Voucher transfer from Klamath Falls, to Salem, Oregon.

Salem Housing does not give what a client’s exact portion of rent will be until a unit that has been submitted has passed inspection. This is when the landlord and client will be notified as to what rent portions will be. Since you requested to have your portability stopped, there is no information that I can give you, as your voucher is back with Klamath. If you are wanting to still live in Salem, you will need to contact your worker with Klamath and talk with them about starting that process again.

VOLUNTEER DOCENTS NEEDED –

The Klamath County Museum is seeking volunteers interested in serving as docents on Amtrak’s Coast Starlight route.

We’re looking for people who have excellent public speaking skills, are able to spend a long day on the job, and enjoy sharing information about the Klamath Basin.

Volunteer docents board the train around 7:45 a.m. in Klamath Falls and make the four-hour trip to Eugene, providing narration about features such as lakes, forests, wildlife, historic sites and geology.

Docents usually have a four-hour layover in Eugene before boarding a southbound train for the return to Klamath Falls, arriving around 10:00 p.m.

Those who are accepted into the program will be asked to make the trip to Eugene once a month.
